Dr. Joan m. Somes PhD, MSN, RN-BC, NRP, CEN, CPEN, FAEN

Joan worked for 40 years as a bedside nurse and department educator in the emergency departments of a suburban and an inner city hospital in St. Paul, MN. She now works as an independent consultant for her state's Dept. of Health doing site visits to evaluate stroke care at critical access hospitals, teach emergency assessment and care of patients to care providers as well as EMS personnel for Regions Hospital EMS, and manages a grant on older driver safety from her state's Dept. of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety. Joan is an ACLS and PALS instructor. She has presented on a variety of topics at nursing and safety conferences across the US. She is the geriatric section editor of the Journal of Emergency Nursing and has been published numerous times.
