Mrs. Karen A McFarland MSN, RN, VA-BC

Karen McFarland is a Nurse Manager at MD Anderson Cancer Center with over 25 years of experience in vascular access, critical care, and emergency nursing and also Interim Associate Director for 6 months. Karen pioneered ultrasound-guided PIV insertion training for nurses, improving ER throughput. Karen is also a recipient of the Bronze Medal Award from the Good Samaritan Foundation 2024 and her contributions helped the unit receive the 2024 Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurse Association. She holds a Vascular Access Board certification and is committed to advancing patient care through innovation and education.
