Chief Government Relations Officer, Emergency Nurses Association

Since 2013, Richard Mereu has been the Chief Government Relations Officer of the Emergency Nurses Association, a 43,000 member professional association based in Chicago. At ENA, his work has focused on advancing legislation and regulations to improve emergency care and enhance injury prevention efforts in the United States. Prior to joining ENA, Richard Mereu worked in the U.S. Congress for nineteen years, including eleven years as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for former Representative Elton Gallegly (R-CA). He also served as the Staff Director to two subcommittees of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Counsel on the Judiciary Committee. Mr. Mereu has worked as Faculty member at the Government Affairs Institute of Georgetown University – 2016 and as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Government at American University. Mr. Mereu has a JD from Albany Law School and B.A. from Colgate University.
